The Aldwych Theatre Refurbishment

Late in 2017 the Aldwych Theatre, one of London's premier entertainment venues underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment to restore the auditorium and front of house areas.

Working alongside specialist electrical contractor Fagan Electrical, Robolights undertook the task of restoring the original light fittings from the early 1900's, as well as designing and manufacturing new replica lights in the same Art Nouveau style.

Built by William Sprague in 1905, the Aldwych was designed in the Edwardian Baroque style and so given the theatres heritage, it was essential that the finished light fittings reflected the antiquity of the building. To achieve this the final designs included bespoke textured coloured panels to compliment the glass of the theatre's canopy, with the metal enclosures for the light fightings being fabricated in house by Robolights utilising laser cutting and CNC folding processes, along with an antique gold paint finish.

The Aldwych was a fantastic project, as ever Robolights were delighted to work alongside Nederlander Theatres and Fagan Electrical again. If you are nearby be sure to take the time to visit the Aldwych Theatre.
